Chad Schumacher is a founding principal of Tradition Wealth Management. His primary focus is on building and preserving wealth for individuals and businesses. The approach with his multigenerational client base is to serve as the “Personal CFO” for the families and business owners. The full integration of his planning work is to get a deep understanding of the people he works with and match their goals and values to a life plan.

Prior to launching Tradition Wealth Management, Chad was a Private Client Manager for a large national financial institution. In addition, he was a relationship manager for two Fortune 500 companies and worked with their executives on strategic planning opportunities.

Chad works closely with his team of professionals to attend to all of his clients’ needs and implement appropriate investment strategies. His experience in the investment markets, emphasis on technical risk management, and diligent efforts to understand his clients have helped to expand his referral-only practice.

Chad is a recognized industry leader with almost three decades of experience in financial services. He received the prestigious designation of being named one of America’s top 100 financial advisors.

Chad is very involved with the community and attends numerous charity events each year. He lives with his wife and their three children in Prior Lake, Minnesota. His interests, other than the passion for his family and profession, rest in a round of golf or a local sporting event.

With more than 30 years of experience in the financial services field, Brad Johnson has continuously built lifelong, trusting relationships with individuals, corporate executives, and business owners. Brad ensures that these challenges will be met through rigorous attention to detail and a relentless commitment to follow-through.

He excels throughout the range of financial planning stages: wealth accumulation, wealth preservation, income creation, and wealth transfer strategies. Because each client is unique, Brad incorporates specific objectives, circumstances, time horizons, and risk temperaments for each of his client relationships.

Brad began his journey at the University of Colorado where he earned his bachelor’s degree. He then went on to attain the Accredited Asset Management Specialist designation from the College for Financial Planning and is a Qualifying Member of the Million Dollar Round Table. 

Brad resides in Edina with his wife and has two adult children. When Brad is not busy serving his local community, he enjoys spending time with his family and networking.

Tim Gunderson is an Investment Advisor and Partner at Tradition Wealth Management. He has worked in the industry for twenty-two years and specializes in retirement planning and rollovers from company-sponsored retirement plans.

Tim is a Certified Financial Planner® Practitioner, certified by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards in Denver, Colorado. He is a Registered General Securities Principal and holds the Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®), Chartered Life Underwriter® (CLU®) and Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter® (CPCU®) designations. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Gustavus Adolphus College.

Tim serves on the Board of Trustees for the Courage Kenny Foundation. During his free time, he enjoys running, tennis and golfing.

Prior to joining Tradition Wealth Management, LLC in June of 2013, he was a financial advisor with two large national financial planning institutions. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota.

Dave and his team, recognize that each client situation has different needs. They will work closely to understand overall objectives and risk profiles. With a deep understanding of investments, retirement planning and taxation, they will coordinate with CPAs and estate attorneys, to build a multigenerational wealth plan.

Dave resides in Chaska, Minnesota, with his wife, Nichole, and their children, Luke and Ella. They enjoy spending time together as a family, watching kids sports or activities and getting in a few rounds of golf.

He and his wife, Brenda, live in Bloomington, Minnesota, with their children Jack and Caroline. They enjoy spending time together outdoors and are avid mountain bikers, snowmobilers, and boaters. Julie Grey serves as a Private Wealth Advisor for Tradition Wealth Management. She works with individuals and families to help them achieve their personal and financial goals, advising on a wide range of wealth planning strategies, asset allocation, liquidity and overall balance sheet management. Julie’s goal is to help you feel confident, connected and in control of your financial life.

Julie has had a 30-year career in the financial services industry, with extensive experience in helping clients preserve and grow their wealth. Prior to joining Tradition Wealth Management, she was an institutional investor at Ameriprise Columbia Threadneedle Investments and Piper Capital Management. At the former, Julie was part of a team that managed $20 billion of assets for institutional clients such as 401(k) plans, state pension plans and sovereign funds as well as two mutual funds. At Piper, she was the chair of the Credit Committee for money market investments.

Julie holds the professional designations of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) and Certified Public Accountant. She has a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

Julie shares her time between Minnetonka, Minnesota, and Scottsdale, Arizona, and enjoys hiking, reading and visiting her two grown daughters in New York City. She also volunteers at St. Vincent de Paul in Phoenix as a tutor and at ICA Food Shelf in Minnetonka as a client service provider.

Herb started his career in 1970 with the Hartford Insurance Group in Connecticut and Ohio. He returned to Minnesota in 1972 as a Managing General Agent for Aetna Life and Casualty, until 1979.

He then created his business, Benefit Designers Inc. (BDI), with two partners. After buying them out in the first five years, Herb ran BDI for the next 40 years. The primary business was retirement plans and working with individuals in wealth management. He later sold the retirement plan business and joined Tradition Wealth Management partnering with Tim Gunderson in 2019.

Herb graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth with a Bachelor of Science in Education. He completed continuing education in Insurance and Management from the Hartford School of Insurance and earned the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®) designation from The American College of Financial Services.

Outside of work, Herb has participated in boards of many nonprofit companies, and he enjoys fishing and travel. He and his wife Ann live in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Jake Taylor is an Investment Advisor and Director of Sports Management for Tradition Wealth Management. A retired professional hockey player with seven seasons in the American Hockey League, Jake combines his love of professional sports and passion for serving others to help athletes and their families plan financially for their best life.

Jake finds the most gratifying aspect of his work is the strong connections forged with clients, guiding individuals toward their financial goals and fostering lasting relationships. With differing lifestyles and goals, no one strategy fits everyone, which is why Jake gives each client undivided attention, from planning to execution to follow-up.

He currently serves as a high school hockey coach in Lakeville, Minnesota, where he leverages his professional sports background to instill values of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance in the next generation of athletes. The reward in this role is to witness their growth both on and off the ice.

Beyond the worlds of finance and hockey, he loves to get outside his comfort zone. Running, working out, and tending to his farm are pursuits that invigorate and reflect his commitment to discipline and well-being. Jeff Praus

Jeff began his career in the Printing Industry and worked in a Senior Management level in both Sales and Operations. After this he became an entrepreneur and started a business called Applied Bioprocess Containers which supplied Single Use Containers and Fluid transfer systems for the Biopharmaceutical industry.

After Jeff sold the business to Saint-Gobain, one of the top 160 companies in the world, he spent the next three years managing the Saint-Gobain Global Single Use business from the Plymouth, Minnesota, production facility. Continuing in the entrepreneur field, Jeff worked with two start-up businesses in Minnetonka, Minnesota, and Denver, Colorado.

Pursuing his interest in the financial industry, along with his long-term relationship with Tradition Wealth Management, Jeff parlayed this into his next business venture.

Rhonda Motzko

Rhonda Motzko is the Client Service Manager at Tradition Wealth Management. After working at Tradition Mortgage for six years, she transitioned into her current role in 2007. She provides key day-to-day and long-term support for Brad Johnson, Eric Peyton, Dave Anderson as well as their respective clients on multiple platforms.

Rhonda earned her four-year degree in sports management and exercise physiology from Southwest State University in Mankato, Minnesota. On the weekends, she enjoys spending time with her family and supporting her son Sam at his many sporting events. Christine leverages her experience to ensure that operations are run efficiently and comply with the latest regulatory policies.

Christine earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education at the University of North Dakota. She is a devoted animal-lover and a long-time supporter of several local animal rescues.

In his role as Director of Investments & Financial Planning, Greg serves as Chair of the Tradition Wealth Management Investment Committee and oversees the firm’s overall investment process, strategies, and research efforts. His extensive analysis of the economic outlook and each major asset class forms the basis for strategy and tactical allocation decisions within a suite of core model portfolios he manages on behalf of the firm. 

Additionally, he is responsible for the due diligence and selection of investment managers for client portfolios and numerous business retirement plans the firm manages.

Greg has more than 30 years of investment experience, including the past 10 years in the personal wealth management business. Prior to that, his career focused on institutional investing at both traditional mutual fund asset managers and private alternative investment / hedge funds. Over a period spanning nearly two decades, he held roles including investment analyst, trading, portfolio management, and managing director.

He received a bachelor's degree in Financial Economics from Gustavus Adolphus College, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in Finance from the University of St. Thomas. Greg is a Registered Investment Advisor, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) practitioner and holds the Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®) Designation.  

 

Mark Walsingham

In his role as Chief Compliance Officer, Mark works closely with the Tradition Wealth Management financial advisors and staff professionals to help build and maintain a strong culture of compliance built on the framework of the industry rules and regulations. Additionally, Mark is responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring the policies, procedures, and processes by which Tradition Wealth Management must comply to help ensure that the firm is following all legal and regulatory requirements.

Prior to joining Tradition Wealth Management, Mark served as a supervising principal for an independent broker dealer and registered investment advisor (RIA) where he managed, supervised, and coached financial advisors across the country. 

Mark has more than 15 years of experience in the financial services industry and holds his Series 7, 66, 52, 53, and 24 FINRA registrations. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Finance from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. 

 

Will Johnson

After graduating from Edina High School in 2020, Will attended the University of St. Thomas where he is currently a senior. Will is in the process of getting his licenses having already completed his MN Life Insurance License, SIE, and Series 7 exam. After graduation in May 2024, Will is looking forward to a career in finance.
